Thoughts on the Taibo Culture from a Chinese Architect
Recently, visiting the Wuxi Taibo Museum was like embarking on a cultural dialogue spanning thousands of years. Taibo, the eldest son of King Taizu of Zhou, resolutely accompanied his younger brother Zhongyong to Meili to fulfill his father's wish to pass on the throne to Jili (the father of King Wen of Zhou, Ji Chang). He not only brought advanced culture and farming techniques from the Central Plains but also established the State of Wu in the Jiangnan region, becoming the founder of Wu culture. His magnanimous spirit of "three times giving up the throne" and pioneering spirit deeply touched me and continues to provide me with profound inspiration.
The virtue of yielding one's position to a more capable person is what achieves the overall goal. Taibo's initiative to step down from his position demonstrates a vision and responsibility that transcend personal gains and losses. This reflects in enterprise management, especially in large-scale engineering projects, where contradictions in resources and processes are often encountered. Only by adhering to the principle of "prioritizing the overall project", supporting each other, coordinating and compromising, and allocating resources reasonably, can we ensure the high-quality delivery of the project. This overall perspective of "sacrificing the small self to achieve the greater good" is the cornerstone of team cohesion and efficient collaboration.
The courage to pioneer and the spirit of innovation and change. In a foreign land, Taibo faced difficulties without fear, constructing water conservancy projects and developing agriculture, ultimately leading to the prosperity of the Wu region. The core driving force behind Qi'an's growth from a local enterprise to a construction group with national and even overseas influence is precisely this spirit of pioneering and innovation. Faced with the ever-changing technological, process, and regulatory challenges in the construction field, we need to actively explore new technologies and models, dare to undertake challenging projects, and continuously expand the depth of our business and market breadth, just as Taibo pioneered the Wu region. This will add momentum for the company to overcome difficulties and move forward.
The way of harmony lies in coexistence and mutual prosperity. The museum exhibits the scene of Taibo living in harmony and developing together with the local people, which enlightens us on the importance of handling multi-party relationships. Taibo respected local customs, integrated into the people, and won the hearts of the people. Jiangsu Qi'an, when carrying out projects nationwide and even overseas, also needs to focus on establishing good relationships with local communities, governments, and partners, while respecting cultural customs, caring about residents' demands, and participating in public welfare undertakings. Only in this way can we take root locally, win support, and create a favorable environment for the smooth completion of the project.
The spirit of abdication, pioneering, and harmony embodied by Taibo transcends time and space, embodying profound management wisdom. As a member of Qi'an, I draw inspiration from this spirit to contribute to the resilient development of the group with a broader perspective, innovative thinking, and pragmatic actions. I believe that if all Qi'an people inherit and carry forward this spirit, we will surely continue to propel the company forward into a brighter future. (Huang Xintong)
